Professor Ian Deary awarded OBE

Professor Ian Deary, University of Edinburgh, has been awarded an OBE in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours list 2019 for his services to social sciences. Ian is known to many in ISIR for his research on cognitive abilities. He led globally unique studies using intelligence test scores that had been collected from around 95% of the entire population of Scotland in 1932 and 1947. Hundreds of reports with the data from these Scottish Mental Surveys have explored relationships among cognition, health and lifespan; this work contributed to his founding the field of cognitive epidemiology. Learning what contributes to healthy ageing is a major challenge for our time. ISIR warmly congratulates Ian on this honour.
